Amsterdam is not only known for its openness and outstanding cultural scene, but is also full of beautiful photo spots. So if you want to take some nice vacation photos for your Instagram account or photo album, I have put together the 11 most instagrammable photo spots in Amsterdam for you here. At the end of the article you will find a map in which all the photo spots for your visit to Amsterdam are marked.

Bicycles in the canals of Amsterdam

One of the most famous photo motifs from Amsterdam are the colorful bicycles decorated with flowers standing next to the canals. The flower bikes are creations of the artist Flower Bike Man. Warren Gregory has already beautifully decorated over 300 bicycles and distributed them around Amsterdam. He started this project out of love for his wife and continued it during the pandemic to put a smile on people’s faces. Just wonderful. So keep an eye out for these colorful moments of happiness in Amsterdam. The bikes are spread throughout the city and are regularly replaced and moved to new locations. On the map below I have marked the location where the bike in my photo was.

Gingerbread Houses in Damrak

Another very well-known photo motif from Amsterdam are the Gingerbread Houses in Damrak at the waterfront near central station. The many colorful, narrow canal houses right on the water create a magical motif. The street is very busy, but you can still take photos there very easily cause most people don’t walk close to the water. My insider tip: Right next to the bridge opposite Pancakes Amsterdam Central there is a staircase that leads to a small footbridge. You can take beautiful photos there.

Bloemgracht

There are many incredibly beautiful canals in Amsterdam. A particularly beautiful photo spot is the Bloemgracht canal on the Rosa Overbeekbrug. You should definitely stop by there and take an atmospheric picture with the canal, the bicycles and the beautiful canal houses. A special advantage of this bridge is that there are not that many people there.

Moco Museum

For me, the most instagrammable museum in Amsterdam is the Moco Museum. There you will find visionary modern works of art. The installation Diamond Matrix by Studio Irma is particularly photogenic. In a room, diamonds hang from the ceiling everywhere and shine in changing colors. Get to the museum as early as possible so that you can take photos without people around. The museum is open daily and entry costs 21 to 22 euros per person. It’s best to secure your tickets online in advance.

Rijksmuseum

Another photogenic museum is the Rijksmuseum. You can take wonderful photos of the palatial building from the outside. Pay particular attention to the doors. But the library and the large hall also offer beautiful photo opportunities from the inside. Good to know: In spring, the trees in the garden in front of the museum bloom with beautiful pink flowers. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Admission is free for those up to 18 years of age and adults pay 22.50 euros.

Staalmeestersbrug

The view from the Staalmeestersbrug is one of my favorite photo spots in Amsterdam. Behind the picturesque canal you can see the Zuiderkerk rising up. Which gives the whole photo motif a special touch. The bridge is not very busy and you find the location in the map at the end of the post.

Dam Square

Dam Square is the main square in Amsterdam and you can’t miss it when walking through the city. There you have the Royal Palace, the National Monument and the Nieuwe Kerk right next to each other. The Royal Palace is particularly beautiful as a photo opportunity. However, you should be there early in the morning, otherwise it will be impossible to take photos without people.

De Beurspassage

De Beurspassage is a really pretty passage with gorgeous mosaics on the walls and floor. The passage is located in a small alley right next to the main shopping street Damrak, so you can easily miss it. I have marked the exact location on the map below. Be in the passage as early as possible. There are also shops there, so it gets very crowded throughout the day and it’s difficult to take nice photos.

Papiermolensluis

The Papiermolensluis Bridge is picturesquely located directly at a canal crossing. The view of the bridge opposite with the beautiful canal houses in the background is unique. Be sure to stop by there.

Japanese Bloesempark

Bloesempark is a wonderful insta spot if you are in Amsterdam in spring. There are countless trees there with blooming Japanese cherry blossoms at that time. It’s a dream for every flower fan. It’s best to get there as early as possible, the park gets pretty crowded and a lot of people picnic there. The rest of the park is also beautiful and definitely worth a walk. There is plenty of parking there, but it fills up very quickly during cherry blossom season.

Keukenhof and flower fields in Lisse

Another fantastic photo spot for flower fans is the Keukenhof and the surrounding flower fields in Lisse. During the tulip season you can see many beautiful flowers there and take great photos. There are four different flower shows, you can go on a guided tour or a boat trip through the garden. The garden opens in end of March, but the best time to see some blooming tulips is from middle of April till middle of May. To enter the Keukenhof you have to buy a ticket for 19,50 euros and you need an additional ticket for the parking for 6 euros. You can book both tickets online or at the ticket counter. You can reach the Keukenhof best by car in 30 minutes from Amsterdam. Alternatively there are a lot of guided bus tours you can book online or use public transport.

Here are some beautiful flower fields in the area around the Keukenhof you can visit: Bloemenvelden Noordwijkerhout, Bollenveld Voorhout, Bollenveld Lisse and the fields along Oosterduinen street. Also don’t miss these tulip expierences in the area: De Tulperij, Tulip Experience Amsterdam and The Tulip Barn.
