Europe is diverse. Did you know that more than 200 languages are spoken in Europe or that the continent of Europe is home to more than 400 UNESCO World Heritage Sites? There is something for everyone in Europe. From beautiful beaches, snowy mountains and impressive fjords about old castles and fairytale villages to vibrant metropolises, it’s all there.
What particularly stands out in Europe are the many old cities with their history, some of which goes back thousands of years, and their ancient monuments. Don’t miss Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Lisbon, Budapest and Prague. To name just a few of my favorite old cities in Europe. The people and cuisines in Europe are just as diverse as the sights. You will meet many different personalities and feast on the most delicious food from different cuisines.
The best time to travel around Europe is the summer and during the shoulder seasons. Everything looks beautiful with all the sunshine and you have the good temperatures for sightseeing or beach time. But the summer is also high season. That means everything is more expensive and crowded.
My favourite time to travel in Europe is from April till June and September till October. You find less people traveling in Europe and all the prices are lower. You have a lot of sunshine and the temperatures are more pleasant.
The key word for this question is the car. A road trip through Europe is the best thing you can do. In Europe there are many countries in a very small area, so you can reach many places by car in the shortest possible time. Pay attention to toll fees. Some countries charge a highway toll and others don’t.
A charming and very good alternative to the car is the train. There are good train connections between the most popular destinations throughout Europe. You can also enjoy the beautiful landscape while driving. There are very attractive and cheap offers for train journeys through Europe. Europeans can buy the Interrail train ticket. If you are not a European citizen, you can travel with a Eurail pass instead.
Prices for traveling in Europe vary a lot depending on where you are. In general, Western Europe is cheaper than Eastern Europe. Prices in Southeastern Europe are currently cheapest in countries such as Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. Holidays in Switzerland and Scandinavia are particularly expensive. If you want to save money, consider traveling in Europe during the off-season.
Europe is full of instagrammable spots for your photos. If you are looking for romantic little towns, vibrant old metropolises, beautiful beaches and spectacular natur, this is the place to be. Here are my favourite instagrammable places in Europe you shouldn’t miss:
This are just a few of the countless instagrammable spots you find in Europe. So there is a lot more to discover.
You can wear whatever you want in Europe. There is no dress code or anything like that. Remember that it is significantly colder and rainier in the north of Europe than in the sunny and warm south. If you are traveling to Europe in the summer, a swimsuit, airy and comfortable clothing should not be missing from your suitcase. The general rule of thumb in Europe is: rely on layers. It can get cold in the mornings and evenings, even in summer, while it’s 30 degrees during the day. A light rain jacket is always a good idea in this changeable weather.
In winter you should pack really warm clothes as it can get very cold, especially in northern Europe. City trips or hiking trips are particularly popular, so be sure to pack comfortable shoes such as sneakers.
